Havelock Island
This beautiful island lies on the north of Neil, is one of the islands chosen by the government to turn into a luxurious tourist destination. The coral reef here is still intact and is what makes snorkeling a great pleasure. Only the northern part of Havelock is populated. To make it easy to remember locations, they are numbered from one to seven. The boat docks at no 1. The best accommodation is at no 5 and when one plans to take a stroll on a beautiful beach he should head for no 7 then turn left at the junction at no 3.
Ross Island
This Island is spread along an area of 0.6-sq-kms. Ross Island remained under British occupation till 1942. However, the Japanese took over from 1942 to 1945. The British reoccupied the island in 1945 and later abandoned it. This island presently houses the ruins of old buildings like Chief Commissioner's House, Govt. House, Church and Troop Barracks, among other interesting sights. Though these are now in quite a ruined condition they are reminiscent of the old British regime. Ross Island is open for the tourists excepting on Wednesdays. Boat services are available from the Phoenix Bay Jetty. |
