Capital of Arunachal Pradesh. The township is situated at 350 meters above the sea level. It comes administratively under Papumpare district. The Nishis or Nishings is the major tribe in Itanagar area. However, Itanagar can be called as mini India , as people from all over the country, live here in harmony. It is located to the east of Tawang and has been identified with Mayapur, a city dating back to the 14th -15th century AD.
he major attractions of Itanagar include the Itafort, Buddhist monastery, Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Museum , and the Ganga lake (Geykar Sinyi) and the Zoo. The visitor should stop at the far side of the bridge that spans the Pachim River . There is an attractive village below and to the right of the road leading to Itanagar. Most of the houses are built at ground level but at least one is on stilts. Such variations could be the result of cross-cultural influences between the twenty major tribes who speak many different languages.
Bomdila
The Buddhist monastery of Bomdila is the repository of culture and is among primary attractions of the area. Bomdila is the headquarters of West Kameng district located at the height of 8500 ft above the sea level. It has a lot of attractions for the tourists with its cool climate, Apple orchids, artistic people, snow-capped Himalayan peaks and Buddhist Gompas. The Buddhist monastery of Bomdila is the repository of culture. This place has a tourist lodge, a craft center displaying local crafts and a shopping center.
Namdapha National Park
In the Indian Subcontinent Namdapha National Park has perhaps the richest diversity of flora and fauna. This is because of it's biogeographically location within the Indo-Chinese sub region and its great altitudinal variation, from 4,500 meters at Daphabum, highest point, to 200 meters in the lowest valleys. The park is largely mountainous and is drained by the noa-Dehing, Deban and Namdapha Rivers .
Bhalukpong, Arunachal
Bhalukpong is worth a visit at the time of the Nyethidow festival in March. Also nearby (3 km) is the famous Tipi Orchid Center . Languages spoken here by the local folks are Aka, Hindi, Assamese and English. The best season to visit Bhalukpong is from October to May.
Parashuram Kunda
Parashuram Kund is located 13 miles north-east of Tezu, District headquarters of Lohit district - a growing town, famous for its scenic beauty. A famous mela is celebrated every year in the month of January during the "Makarsankranti" here in Parashuram Kunda. The other name of the Kunda is 'Prabhu Kuthar', the origin of the 'Kunda' viz. Parasuram Kunda is associated with Parasuram's matricide.
The history goes in brief that one day Renuka, mother of Parasuram went to Ganga for having bath and bringing water by delay in bringing water made the Rishi Jamadagni, the husband of Renuka very angry as it was already getting late for the mid day worship. He asked the sons to kill her. None of his six sons except Parasuram could oblige. Parasuram chopped off the head of his mother indifference to the wishes of his father, but as a result of crime handle with his axe got struck to his hand. Jamadagni was very pleased with him for carrying out his order and asked Parasuram to have for boon.
