Skilled artisans from all over the country come to this place to exhibit and sell their ware in the fair ground, which is beautifully decorated with motifs from different states every year. Even the details of the decorations like festoons, handcrafted lampposts, lampshades, small huts and paintings are specimens of exquisite craftsmanship.
Badkhal Lake
The Badkhal Lake is situated at a motoring distance from Delhi offers many adventures of water sports like Canoeing, Kayaking or just simple boat riding. This panoramic lake is a paradise for picnickers and the hundreds of species of birds that head for this lake in winter. The real attraction of Badkhal lake are its serene waters around which small cottages are built at an elevation, thus affording the occupants a splendid view of the lake alive with the activity of birds during the winter season.
Tilyar Lake
The Tilyar Lake is located at a distance of 70km from Delhi in Rohtak district. It greets the travelers with facilities like boating and kayaking. In a different direction and located 64 kilometres from Delhi on the old highway to Alwar, is the Damdama Lake with cottages built on higher ground and mirrored in the calm waters of the lake. A camping complex for the adventurous is also there and facilities for sports such as rock climbing on the surrounding Aravali ranges, canoeing, kayaking, cycling and trekking are all available.
Damdama Lake
The Damdama lake is named after the traces of gold were found in the nearby waters in the old times. Sohna has become quite popular due to the annual Vintage Car Rally that takes place in February. Motorists drive the 56 kilometres from Delhi and come to rest and picnic here, half way away from the venue of the rally. The Saras Tourist Complex that stands on the bank is a neat little place with tastefully done-up guest rooms, each with a separate balcony facing the lake. The colorful camping tents pitched on green slopes nearby are particularly charming.
The Damdama Lake recedes in winter reaching its lowest ebb in the summer. During the rains its level shoots up dramatically, reaching 50 to 60 feet in places and covering about 6 kilometers all round. The lake covers and area of about 5½ acres, though the exact area of Damdama is difficult to gauge because its numerous amoeba-like arms expand and contract unexpectedly, lending a new dimension to the lake almost everyday.
Kurukshetra
Kurukshetra is covering an area of 48 kosas (an Indian unit of measuring land) where 860 places of pilgrimage related to the Mahabharata exist today. The important sites are the Brahma Sarovar, Sannihit Sarovar, Gurudwara Sadbhiti, Thaneswar Tirtha, and Rajghat.
Thaneswar
Thaneswar is a sacred town for Hindus because Lord Shiva in the form of the lingam (phallic representation of Shiva) was first worshipped here. Also situated here is the tomb of Sheikh Chilli Jalal. It is a fascinating monument, octagonal in shape, crowned with a dome of white marble and surrounded by a white marble courtyard. Also worth a visit are the Chini Masjid and Pathar Masjid, two outstanding Islamic monuments.
